In Germany, theHauszinssteuer (house rent tax), introduced in 1924, provided the financial basis for the construction of rented housing. In Luckenwalde, the revenues from this tax were channelled through the Gewerkschaftshaus- und Volksheim GmbH, which administered the funds for local housing projects. The municipality of Luckenwalde strongly supported the entire development.
