This dominant building at the end of the city's pedestrian zone called Korzo was built between 1939 and 1942. In the first years it was called palača Arbori or in Italian palazzo Arbori according to the developer's name. The devolopers and the architect tried to ensure that the building with a height of 53 metres could receive a building permit.
After this part of the city became part of Yugoslavia in 1945, a lettering for the country's president Tito was added to the last floor and a red star was placed on the roof. These symbols have been removed.
We don't know how high secular buildings were previously allowed to be built in Rijeka. From 1987 to 1989 the building's cladding was renewed.
