Tower block in Belgrade

Description

Located on the street corner, this house is designed as a kind of tower structure. Architect Miladin Prlejvic started building the Albanija building in Belgrade a year earlier. Here he repeats the idea in a reduced form. The vertical pilasters on the facade underline the tower-like structure of the head building. A sloping part of the building is built to the side at Pop Lukina Street, which accommodates a small apartment and creates a transition to the older neighboring building. As you walk along Kosančićev venac, you can see that the house consists of two parts with two entrances. House No. 1 has seven floors and five apartments on each floor. House No. 1A, with only five floors, accommodates four apartments per floor.

History

The house was built between 1939 and 1940 for a man called Siniša Zdrаvković. The building designed by Miladin Prljević was reconstructed around 2020. So the arcaded sidewalk was uncovered again. Previously, walls had been built between the pillars to enlarge the business space on ground floor.
