Description

The house is located on the long corner of Anglická/Londýnská streets. According to the location a larger, almost quatric block was created in the north and a trapezoidal, smaller block in the south. The north block is decorated with stone tiles and balconies on the outer vertical rows of windows. Between them are the windows of the living rooms connected to form two casement windows. On the northern block, this part of the facade is further emphasized by a small oriel. The south block features instead of balconies two vertical zones with French windows. Along the entire length, the top floor is set back, creating roof terraces. The ground floor is almost entirely used for small stores. In the area of the front door is attached a memorial plaque with the names of the two architects and the constructor Ladislav Syrový.

History

The house is one of Hrubý's first projects. It was built in 1938.

The story of Ladislav Syrový, the constuctor of the house, is interesting. He ran a flourishing construction company in Prague. His brother Jan Syrový, at that time Czechoslovak Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Government, ordered the construction of fortification bunkers around Prague due to the emerging threat from Germany. Some of these bunkers in the vicinity of Karlštejn with the names Mníšek and Budňany were built by Ladislav Syrový's construction company (7 of the 107 bunkers still exist). As a result, his company was very familiar with the tasks of processing concrete.
