Josef Veselý founded the cosmetics company Alpa in 1913, which became the largest manufacturer of rubbing alcohol products in the world during the 1920s and 1930s. In line with its success, a new administration building was built in Brno, where Alpa was produced until 1948. In 1948 the company was nationalized and moved to the town of Velké Meziříčí, where those cosmetics are still produced today.
