Practical issues are combined with a beautiful architecture.

Description

The house shows facades on two sides. The neo-renaissance facade on the ground floor facing the square Staroměstské náměstí was "modernized" with a new shop window zone. The former design of the ground floor is clearly visible on this website. A new building was added to the back of the house, which is clearly visible from Pražská brána Street. The area from the market is on a slope, which means that the rear building is quite high. A large window is inserted in the upper area in order to illuminate the long interior well. At the exit is the garage. The family name on the house used to be at the top of this "rear" facade.

History

This house has been constantly remodeled and expanded. The first mention comes from 1525 and the owner was Pavel Zedník. When the Jews of the Habsburg monarchy received citizenship in the 19th century, the Gellner family moved from the Jewish quarter and bought this house on the town's main market. According to the fashion of the time, they rebuilt it in neo-renaissance style. After Pavel Gellner took over his father's business, he decided in 1924 for the next conversion and extension, which can be seen today. A shop still occupies the building, albeit with little regard for the fantastic architecture.
