A delicate construction

Description

The building was designed with large window panes, attracking people walking on the street to see some of the store's products. The entrance is located in the middle, with shop windows on both sides. The first and second floors were used as sales areas. The top floor with terrace housed offices.

In the gallery of this website about the department stores in České Budějovice is posted a picture from this building during the 1990s. The large windows had a different effect than they have nowadays. Due to the current use as an office building, the lower parts of the windows are covered with advertising, unfortunately changing the proportions of the windows and the whole house.

History

The city council issued the building permit on 31 January 1930. So it was possible for the developer Sadovský to tear down the building that had stood on this site. The small department store for cheap products was opened in November 1930. After nationalisation in 1948, the house was called Dům látek (House of Fabrics). In the 1990s it was used once again for textiles and was called KOTVA MÓDA. Nowdays it houses offices.
