In 1910, Jaroslav Novák built on the site where the city’s present-day ice stadium now stands. Novák was a great automobile enthusiast. Because the well-equipped building was later demolished as part of new urban planning, he was granted the current location as compensation.
Construction lasted from the end of July 1932 until December 11, 1932. The result was a building where motorists could park their cars and refuel at a gas station located in the building itself. Up to 150 cars could be parked in bays. On the ground floor, there were shops for spare parts used in the repair workshop.
After the political changes, the building was returned to the Novák family in 1992, who then carried out a reconstruction. The gas station was moved in front of the building, improving safety for both the structure and people. The building continues to serve as a parking facility to this day, and a bar has also moved into the ground floor.
Thus, alongside the main railway station, the city of Hradec Králové has a second fascinating building connected to the history of transportation.
