An educational centre for music, dance and theatre

Description

Many authors have the association of a monastery, when they describe the building. On the outside, especially towards the street, it appears as a closed structure. Individual structures can be seen better from the side of the pond. A detailed description can be found on this website.

History

The school was built for music teachers to trained in music, dance and theatre. It was built between 1927 and 1929 by Otto Bartning. It was most probably realized by the Prussian Ministry for Culture, whose minister of education of this time was Carl Heinrich Becker, a friend of Otto Bartning and Georg Götsch. Götsch became the first director of this school, which was used for this purpose until 1941 or 1942. What happened until 1945 is never said in texts. But from 1945 until 2001 it housed the local Kleist theatre, what resulted in some added buildings. Currently it is abandonded and secured only in a makeshift manner.
