Description

The large pool has been divided into two parts for non-swimmers and swimmers. In the non-swimmer area, three animal sculptures are set up as fountains. The pool was built in groundwater. That made it neccessary to built it out of concrete to keep water out. The remaining buildings are also concrete constructions. The majority of it have been preserved, including the entrance and the main building, housing the lifeguard's apartment, changing rooms, toilets and a snack bar. The former restaurant building with its characteristic round shape has also been preserved, but unfortunately is no longer in use. Inside it is currently in very poor condition.

History

Leuna was and is a town connected with chemical factories. The first factories were opened before 1914. The loca river Saale was used as a public bath. But after World War I the river's quality increased so that was set a plan to built a public swimming pool. Next to the river was found a large meadow. The pool located off-the-beaten-path is reached via an arched bridge made of reinforced concrete that spans over the river Saale. Many of the buildings in the outdoor pool have been preserved in their original form, although the bath, like Leuna, was heavily bombed in 1945. Only the diving tower has been replaced and the former pergola of the main building has only been partially preserved.

Besides the architect Kurt Jahn is mentioned a person called Busse, named as draftsman.
