High-quality architecture supported by the government
Description
The school building consists of three architectural structures. The high stairway tower with the entrance, the adjoining building with a flat roof (partly offices and staff rooms) and the section with a gable roof for the classrooms. For the small town of Wettin, this building is an outstanding example of early modernism.
History
A larger school was needed in Wettin during the 1920s. The decision was made to lay the cornerstone on November 23, 1930. The school was supposed to be completed in 1931, but due to the global economic crisis and a lack of finance, the expansion had to be stopped in 1931. The opening did not take place until 1938. The construction must have been completed before then as it is reported to have been used for something else. In 1979 a new school building was built next door so that from then on only the classes 1-4 were taught in this building. To date, the school has remained a elementary school and was reconstructed in 2004.
