The success of the cosmetics company Alpa, the largest manufacturer of rubbing alcohol products in the world during the 1920s and 1930s, inspired the company's boss Josef Veselý, maybe also some of his partners, to built a new headquarter next to the factory. Next to other architects, Bohuslav Fuchs won the compitition. The plans show that the current building is the right part of a larger planned site. We cannot find anywhere why it was not carried out.
In 1948 the company was nationalized at moved to Velké Meziříčí and never returned to Brno.
The building is today used for offices and is called Fuchsia to commemorate the architect Bohuslav Fuchs. An application sended to the Czech Ministry of Culture is intended to declare the building a national cultural monument in order to ensure its historical protection.
