He studied at Hannover Technical School and became a civil engineer for the railway and was one of the responsible person for Frankfurt/Main central station. He planned many bridges. In cooperation with architects he constructed some remarkable buildings like the AEG turbine factory in Berlin.
He tought construction at the Berlin Technical University.
