Josef Šolc studied at Vyšší průmyslovou školu stavební v Brně in the years 1923 until 1927. For us it is not easy to identify the school. But in 1933 he decided with his wife and family to move to Prague. There he started to study architecture. In the next years he co-operated with the prosuctive Brno architect Václav Dvořák. In 1936 he became the chief of the technical department of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia. In this position he realised one of his most significant buildings, the Apartment houses of the Pension Fund of the Employees of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia.
After World War II he faced some difficult years. In 1955 he violated the laws of the socialist state. We don't know what exactly happened. In all cases he was sentenced to eight years in prison. Due to liberalization in the country, he was granted amnesty in 1960 and worked as an architect again. He also devoted himself to painting and created pictures in an expressive cubist style.
