György Masirevich

1905 in Budapest, Hungary
1989 in Los Angeles, USA

Due to his young age, György Masirevich was one of Hungary's more progressive architects during the interwar period. In 1927, he was expelled from the Technical University for displaying plans of modern architecture. As a result, he was only able to complete his studies in 1929. Immediately afterwards, he designed a leisure centre for students in Szántód on Lake Balaton. At the same time he was involved in international congresses, so he was in close contact with architects from other countries. He designed various types of buildings, worked as a consultant and urbanist and opened his own architectural office in 1935. He also designed some neo-baroque and neo-classical buildings, which are not part of our collection. After World War II, he first emigrated to Switzerland and shortly afterwards to the USA, where he opened his own architectural practice in 1952.
