František Kalivoda's professional life was connected with Brno. He studied in Brno between 1931 and 1939. The project for Villa Psota from 1935 he drawn as a student.
But he increasingly worked as a designer. For example, for Bohuslav Fuchs' company AKA, which produced interior furnishings. He was a member of CIAM and CIRPAC and contributed both ideas and exhibitions. He also worked as a lecturer at art colleges in Bratislava and Brno.
In addition to his work as a typographer, he campaigned in the 1960s for the preservation and meaningful use of Villa Tugendhat. It was also thanks to him that the villa was declared a cultural monument at this time.
