Sometimes in life things turn out differently than expected or planned. Aleksandar Medvedev enrolled in architecture studies in Kharkiv, Ukraine. But because of the revolution in Russia and the founding of the Soviet Union, he wants to study in Paris. After spending two years in Turkey and Bulgaria, he traveled via Belgrade. There he was convinced by Russian emigrants to stay there. He begins studying architecture at the Technical Faculty. In doing so, he takes up the influences that are taught at this university. He finished his studies in 1929.
Until 1935 he went to Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with his wife Ksenija and designed buildings there. So we will go looking in Banja Luka to find his works.
From 1935 they went to Niš, where Ksenija's sister lived and where many Russian architects were already working. Medvedev opens his own architectural office and realizes many public buildings as well as private commissions. In total he designs around 60 buildings in Niš and the surrounding area. After World War II he worked as a professor of architecture and in a design office.
