Plenty of German cities have buildings of "international architecture" of the interwar period. Between 1918 and 1933 the Bauhaus school trained students in various branches of art. From the time the school moved to Dessau also architecture was taught. The Bauhaus school was founded in Weimar, moved to Dessau in 1925 and finally ended up as a privately financed school in Berlin for one year until 1933. The architecture of the interwar time and of the Bauhaus school is still influencing contemporary architecture. After 1949 the two German states applied the ideas of the international architecture in different ways and at different times, just as reunified Germany did after 1990.
