Plauen's modern infrastructure

Description

On the western side of the building, the railway tracks are still very close to the building. Mail could be moved from the railway side into the post office. That western facade is more hidden by the tracks.

On the east side, which faces Pausaer Straße, cars could and can still access the building's ramp. The east facade is the main facade and features four floors. The ground floor is connected with the ramps. One of the most striking elements are the vertical ribbon windows in front of the stairways. The building is constructed on this side as a symmetrical U with two building sections projecting forwards.

History

Unfortunately, very little is known about this building. It was built between 1926 and 1928 opposite Plauen's main railway station on the other side of the railway tracks.

As the railway played an important role in transport, it makes sense to bundle the connections for postal traffic centrally. Post has not been transported by rail in Germany since 1995. As the building is still used as a post office, the ramp on the east side is still in operation.
