Model house of the late 1930s for the metropolis

Description

The building is a successful example of metropolitan architecture, constructed with a gentle curve. All the openings are slightly recessed, creating loggias throughout. To meet the demand for retail premises on the square, the entire ground floor is fitted with publicly accessible shops. Viewed from above, with its flat roof, the building forms a visual unity with the contemporary building at Vlaška Street 126.

History

Sources report that the house was built either between 1939 and 1940 or between 1940 and 1941. It thus became an urban townhouse.

The residents were likely workers and members of the insurance company that built the house.

The square is officially called Trg Eugena Kvaternika, but is most commonly referred to as Kvaternikov trg.
