An impressive station for a short narrow-gauge railway.

Description

The railway station consists of an administration building, which once also housed the stationmaster's flat. The staiways lead to those parts through the clinker cube. The name of the town is written in large letters on the north side. These refer to the entrance next to it. This lower area consists of only one ground floor. A curved canopy guides people into the building. Inside, it accommodates a foyer. The waiting rooms and ticket counters, which were located on the ground floor of the administration building, were accessed from here. From the foyer, the path also leads to the platform, where the tracks are located on both sides. The roof of the platform is a very light and smart construction, resting on pillars.

History

The project for a new station in Trenčianske Teplice on the narrow-gauge railway Trenčianske Teplice - Trenčianska Teplá dates back to 1939, the year in which Czechoslovakia was erased and the railway administration in Slovakia became Slovak Railways. As the new state presented itself as an accomplice to Hitler's Germany, this project could also be read as political.

The railway station was then built in 1939 until 1941. The railway line is just 5.5 km long. But Trenčianske Teplice is a main Slovak spa.

It is interesting to note that some improvements were also made to the railway operation itself during the period of World War II. For example, the voltage was increased in 1942 in order to reduce power consumption. In September 2011, the railway company sold the railway. Since then, only an occasional service has been operated on certain days. The NGO Trenčianska elektrická železnica, n.o. (TREŽ) is responsible for this. As a result, the station building only rarely fulfils its original function. The building itself belongs to the Ministry of Transport and is in a very poor state of repair.
