A symphony of modernity in Novi Sad.

Description

The house is relatively difficult to recognise and see. Basically, the house is a symphony of modernity, as many elements have been tried out. Different window shapes for lots of light inside. For example, the room windows and especially the vertical ribbon windows for the staircase. The top floor is designed as a roof terrace. The cornice covers the upper end of the facade like a picture frame.

It is reported that the facade was once painted light blue. This would make the building appear much lighter than it does at present.

Because of the beam above the roof terrace, we have indicated that the house was built of concrete. However, we have no information on the construction method. So it is also possible that large parts of the building are masoned.

History

The plans based on a sketch of the house date back to 1933, when the idea was born. Other sources are mentioning, that the house was built in 1934.

The house is attributed to the architect Đorđe Tabaković, who was intensively involved with the stylistic developments of modernism in Europe. A signature can be found on the sketch. Although we cannot really recognise the signature written in Cyrillic, it is by no means Tabaković's or that of the developer Deđanski. Unfortunately, we have not found any further information about Mr Deđanski or Mrs Deđanska.
