Description

Two small buildings on the banks of the Danube with some of the characteristics of classical modernism.  A simple, single-storey building that looks like a bracket. Originally, only the rooms for the ticket office and supervision were included. The rest of the area was not built in or glazed, but served as a boarding and alighting area for passengers of the ship Propeller. And also the letters of the company and a flagpole emphasise the building's affiliation with early modernism.

Those characteristics were also new in the work of the architect Emil Belluš.

In addition to the Slovakian and German rowing clubs, other key works of modern Slovakian architecture were built on the banks of the Danube.

The glass fixtures in the building on the old town side were retrofitted.

History

In 1930, Emil Belluš designed two small buildings that served as a kind of stops and shelters for the Propeller ferry service. At the same place were already small wooden buildings on the site for the landing stages for the ferry service that opened in 1893. There is one stop in the Old Town and one on the opposite bank in Bratislava-Petržalka. At that time, it was the only way to cross the Danube in Bratislava, as there was only one railway and tram bridge. It should be noted that the Petržalka district was a village in 1930 and was only developed into a large neighbourhood after World War II.

Boat traffic ceased in 2003. As a result, the stops also lost their use. The building in the old town was renovated and reopened as a shop in 2022. The stop in Petržalka is currently not used at all.
