A pot with a lid...

Description

The simpler, the better. The construction consists of six pillars in which the spiral staircase is located. It is rotating around a central pillar. Lattice bars are set in the lower part of the spiral staircase. The pillars support the viewing platform, which was designed like a little pot with a lid. The white colour underlines the elegance of the construction of straight and twisted structures.

History

In 1934, the Peasant Credit Union of the Říp region (Rolnická záložna Podřipská), on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, planned a lookout tower in Roudnice nad Labem above the centre from which the entire area could be seen. One year later, on 11 October 1935, the tower was inaugurated. It was named after Václav Kratochvíl, the founder of the union. A memorial plaque for him is placed at the bottom of the stairs. After the last restoration in 2005, the tower was placed under protection as a national cultural monument in 2015.
